Summer isn’t all that far away, and that means if you are a student, you might be looking for an internship. So, if you’re looking for a life-changing experience, spend the summer as an intern with Portland Rescue Mission in our New Life Ministries at either Shepherd’s Door or The Harbor. Both facilities are located in northeast Portland.
The core of our New Life Ministries is a 12-month recovery program designed to help hurting men, women and children find long-term success in both their personal and professional lives. This means helping foster a safe, healing faith-based environment for people struggling with addictions and unhealthy living.
At Portland Rescue Mission, recovery comes through various avenues — including spiritual formation, life skills training, numerous classes and counseling. Interns are expected to commit 25+ hours per week over the summer to be a part of the program. Room and board is free for live-in interns.
As Director of Women and Children’s Ministries Christine Ourada describes, “As interns observe and interact with our residents, they will see struggles, but they’ll also experience the dynamic power of God in a [man], woman or child’s life.
“They will also experience enrichment in their own walk with Christ, and have opportunities to see life from a perspective that may be different from their own.”
Intern opportunities at both The Harbor and Shepherd’s Door include discipleship, pastoral care, case management, community life and integration as well as child development for kids (up to 12 years old).
If you or anyone you know is interested in joining with Portland Rescue Mission to give hope and restore life this summer, the intern application can be found online.
