Women & Children

Shepherd’s Door

Shepherd’s Door, our New Life Ministry for women and women with children, provides a supportive and relational environment in long-term residential recovery in a retreat-like setting for those who are experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, or struggling with addiction. At Shepherd’s Door, women receive holistic care from Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors and support from our dedicated nursing staff to overcome substance use disorders, spiritual transformation, and life skills development.

Shepherd’s Door residential recovery programs begin with Discovery, a 5-week assessment, stabilization, and relapse prevention program. Discovery graduates are eligible to enter New Life, a one-year holistic recovery program. Transition programs are available upon completion of the New Life program. As we compassionately walk beside the women, they are encouraged to grow inside and out.

If it weren’t for Portland Rescue Mission I would have given up. I would have been sitting alone in prison. Now I have hope and happiness again.
– Lauren

85% of the women who have graduated in the last 5 years from our New Life Ministry Program have a home and are free of addictions.

Life Transformation for Children

Our Children’s Center serves up to 25 children whose moms are staying at Shepherd’s Door. Our loving staff engages children in healthy play, active learning, and group activities. Parenting skills are modeled and taught so mothers can become the moms they desire to be.

These services are critical in helping families heal and can truly change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Every year about 10 families are reunified at Shepherd’s Door

I was homeless and out of control. Now I’m a new woman inside and out with a home and a child who trusts me.
