Harry’s Fresh Food celebrates end of summer at Shepherd’s Door

Sometimes, partnerships are simply meant to be. And after Harry’s Fresh Foods connected with Portland Rescue Mission last year, it was it was evident to all it was the perfect match.

“After we talked last year, Harry’s Fresh Foods fell in love with who we’re serving, what we’re doing to help the community and wanted to know how they could get involved with the Mission,” said Alexa Mason, of our Community Engagement team. “Since then, they have gotten really involved, and have a special heart for Shepherd’s Door.

“They really believe our Mission, and they want to be a part of the work we do everyday helping our participants work toward sobriety and new life.”

Which is why Harry’s Fresh Foods decided to help pull the curtains down on summer for the women and children at Shepherd’s Door. Complete with gifts for the kids, delicious food, and even a bounce house, joy was evident everywhere during the annual barbecue they put on for a second straight year.

“We love this! It’s so nice for us to get involved with our community and serve. It’s so much fun,” said Melissa Adams, Marketing Coordinator for Harry’s Fresh Foods.

It was also a pleasure for the New Life Ministries participants at Shepherd’s Door –particularly for those involved with coordinating the food because of the brand new gas grill Harry’s Fresh Foods donated.

“It’s such a blessing, and it’s such a treat,” said Barb, a graduate of New Life Ministries, and resident kitchen maestro. “We haven’t been able to have any barbecues this summer because the grill we did have wasn’t working properly. This will be amazing.”

Harry’s Fresh Foods is just one of our many great partnerships at Portland Rescue Mission. We love partnering with businesses, churches and other organizations to give hope and restore life to men, women and children suffering from homelessness and addiction. If you, or your place of employment wants to partner with us, please reach out to Alexa.Mason@pdxmission.org and/or sign up to be a volunteer at PortlandRescueMission.org/Volunteer.

As Melissa reiterated at the barbecue, “This is such an amazing place for women in need where they can make something wonderful of themselves because of the gift they were given of safety, security and time to get back to where they want to be. It’s a great place.”

Shepherd’s Door is the women and children’s location of our New Life Ministries. The Harbor houses the men’s program. Our Hope and Pathway Ministries are located at the Burnside Shelter, where we serve over 330,000 meals each year and house our Connect Ministry. We also offer bathrooms 24 hours a day and seven days a week as well as mail services for over 1,000 guests.
