For 75 years Portland Rescue Mission has been expressing the love and grace of God by offering compassionate care for our neighbors suffering from hunger, homelessness, and addiction.
Back in 1949 that care consisted of a smile, a kind word, and a hot bowl of soup served from a big pot in the trunk of John Van Diest’s car. Over the years a wide range of integrated programs were added, but the heart of the ministry never changed.
Portland Rescue Mission now has nearly 100 staff providing highly-relational services from four facilities and three transitional houses.
In 2023 over 6,000 people received hope-giving care, and many received a new start in life through the ministry of Portland Rescue Mission. Lives are being transformed every day through your generous partnership. Thank you!
