Life on the streets is dangerous for a woman. If a mother becomes homeless, she’s likely to lose custody of her children. A woman alone on the streets is almost certain to be victimized within the first few days.
“Its hard out here on the streets. It’s scary. I’ve put my life in danger, sleeping under the bridge where there’s nobody there with me,” shared one woman.
Portland Rescue Mission exists to give hope and restore life to women facing fear and despair. At Shepherd’s Door, moms and kids can be reunited, safe and happy.
“The first time I came here, that’s when I felt safe from the streets and being homeless,” said one mother at Shepherd’s Door.
“This program has given me hope for the future and for a different life. This program has given me great skills: parenting, how to manage my anger, and how to pray to a wonderful God.”
