Amy woke up in the hospital emergency room. “I intentionally tried to overdose. By medical terms I should have died. I just lost all hope.”

“I’d gotten so low that I thought death was the only answer for me,” she says with sadness in her eyes.
In recovery counseling, Amy discovered that the root of her pain and addiction was anchored in sexual abuse as a child. “I thought I was unloveable, so that really distorted everything in my head about God. And I was blaming others, including God.”
Inside the safe, healing environment of Portland Rescue Mission, Amy is well on the path toward healing along with her son.
