Portland Rescue Mission provides over 236,000 hot, nutritious meals to hungry men, women and children every year.
Thanks to the generous support of a variety of foundation grants, the kitchen of our Burnside Shelter has been renovated to help us further improve our meal service.
This kitchen remodel has greatly increased the effectiveness of the food preparation and cooking. The oven/range is now dependable enough to evenly cook and efficiently bake in half the time of the previous oven, which in turn helps us serve better meals to our guests twice a day.
We now have a designated prep sink that will help us use the fresh produce that gets donated daily. And at the most fundamental level of safety, we can now clean and mop the floors without the water seeping into the rooms below, where we have safe shelter and refreshing showers for our overnight homeless guests.
The kitchen was closed during the two-week renovation. But thanks to the generous support of our community partners, we were able to continue providing hundreds of meals to homeless men and women.
