Each Tuesday night, a loving team of Portland Rescue Mission volunteers wash and massage the feet of homeless women. But we’re running low on clean, new socks to share.
Could you help? Donate new socks at either our Burnside Shelter (111 W. Burnside, Portland) or Shepherd’s Door (13201 NE Halsey, Portland) at your earliest convenience. If possible, mark the package “Women’s Outreach”.
A soft, clean pair of socks can mean so much to a woman who spends much of her day on the street. She comes to us with feet that are dirty, blistered and swollen. We wash her feet, massage them with lots of lotion. We tend to her blisters with antibiotic and band-aids. She looks at her filthy socks with dread. But she lights up when we hold up a soft, clean pair of socks and gently put them on her feet.
