“All God is asking for is a willing heart, and a yes. And you can trust that He’s gonna take that and He’s gonna multiply that in the lives of other people.”
- Austie Eckley, longtime PRM volunteer
Volunteer Appreciation Week gives us the opportunity to pause and recognize the incredible individuals and groups who make this work possible. Day in and day out, our volunteers show up with faith, compassion, and a willingness to serve. We invite our community to join us in thanking the people who give so generously of their time and energy, and to recognize the powerful difference compassion can make.
Service is one of the clearest expressions of faith in action. Through practical care, shared meals, conversations, and prayers, our volunteers reflect God’s love in tangible ways. Their service turns belief into movement and compassion into connection. Together, we are the hands and feet of Jesus, walking alongside our hurting neighbors, reminding them that they are seen, known, and deeply loved by God.
In 2025 alone, more than 1,600 volunteers served across all of our sites, contributing an extraordinary 22,741 hours of service. Each hour represents a conversation, a prayer, an act of care, and a step towards hope.
To our volunteers: thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made and the heart you bring to this mission. Whether your role feels big or small, your commitment makes a difference. This work would not be possible without you, and we are deeply grateful for the ways you continue to serve.
You too can be a part of the life-transforming work that happens at Portland Rescue Mission. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a volunteer, click the link below to join us in Giving Hope and Restoring Lives!
