Angie

For 30 years, Angie was trapped in addiction, fear, and trauma. She had convinced herself that her life was a dead end without escape. But when she cried out to God in desperation, He answered... and led her on a journey that transformed her hopelessness into a new life.

Angie Blake 14 Pdxm

Angie was raised in a home marked by addiction, instability, and domestic violence. As a young adult, she turned to methamphetamines to escape the pain she carried. "Being high allowed me just to keep going," she remembers. "To not stop at any time and think or feel anything." What began at age 19 became a 30-year addiction, and over those years Angie's life unraveled. her relationships with her children were broken, she faced threats from drug dealers, and she eventually lost her home and car. Addiction had left her feeing trapped in chaos and fear.

In 2022, with nowhere and no one to turn to, Angie reached a breaking point. Alone and overwhelmed, she cried out to God. "He answered immediately. He told me I was going to get up and I was going to overcome it." That moment became the first step toward a new life. Angie sought treatment in various programs, while continuing to ask God for His direction. During a walk on the beach, she felt a powerful reminder of His faithfulness. "The Lord said, 'If you can trust in Me, Angie, you'll never be shattered and broken again.'"

As she realized that she needed a faith-based program to support her healing, Angie turned to Shepherd's Door. "When I came to my interview, I remember saying, 'I know the Lord brought me here. I know I'm supposed to be here.'" At first, years of trauma made it difficult to trust others. But the women and staff at Shepherd's Door patiently walked alongside her. "They never gave up on me. I had never experienced someone loving me even when I didn't know how to love myself."

Through a safe, structured environment and Christ-centered care, Angie began to heal. She discovered the peace she had spent decades searching for and rebuilt relationships with her children and grandchildren.

"The Lord has given me His peace that surpasses all understanding."

Today, Angie's life is transformed. She is sober, working at Portland Rescue Mission, and sharing hope with others who are struggling. "Before I came to PRM, I was lost and I thought love equaled pain. But now, I am found. I'm loved. And the Lord has given me His peace that surpasses all understanding."
